Braking systems are an integral safety component of any vehicle. The RDX uses Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) to enhance general braking performance and a 4-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) to help you retain steering control of the vehicle even during hard braking.
- If sensors detect imminent lockup, the ABS pumps and releases brake pressure on the individual wheel several times per second and holds it at the brink of lockup, where stopping ability reaches its peak.
- By preventing the tires from locking up, the driver will retain steering control even during maximum braking.
- Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) uses the ABS sensors to determine the best distribution of brake force among all four wheels.
Brake Assist helps the braking system operate most effectively during an emergency situation by ensuring that sufficient brake pressure is being applied.
- The system uses a sensor to monitor the speed at which the brake pedal is depressed.
- When emergency braking is detected, Brake Assist steps in to ensure the ABS system is activated.
- Brake Assist only engages when needed and terminates immediately upon release of the brake pedal.
