- Magnesium cylinder head covers with hardened aluminum cylinder sleeves help improve vehicle balance and power-to-weight ratio.
- A forged crankshaft results in lower weight and increased strength.
- A high-flow exhaust system increases the engine’s power efficiency.
- EPA estimated mileage is 17 / 25 (city/highway).

The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps you retain steering control when braking hard, as sensors monitor your wheel speed for slippage.
- If lock-up seems imminent, ABS first brakes, then reduces hydraulic pressure to the affected wheel, letting it regain traction before full braking resumes—a process it can repeat more rapidly than is humanly possible.
- Keeping the brakes on the brink of lock-up enables the brakes to achieve their maximum level of stopping power, while still allowing the driver to steer the vehicle.
- The Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) system uses the ABS sensors to direct braking power among the four wheels.
- Brake power distribution is varied, depending on how the car is dynamically loaded.
- EBD also helps optimize the level of brake force prior to activation of the Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS).
Brake Assist
The Brake Assist system can detect an emergency braking situation and will supply additional brake force if pressure on the brake pedal is determined to be insufficient.
- Sensors monitor the speed at which the brake pedal is depressed and the level of force the brake pedal is being held at.
- When emergency braking is detected, Brake Assist steps in to insure the ABS system is activated
- Brake Assist terminates immediately upon release of the brake pedal.

VTEC
VTEC, which stands for Variable valve Timing and Electronic lift Control, is a little like having an on-demand racing camshaft in your engine to give you high rpm power without compromising low rpm torque.
- When engine speed reaches a designated rpm, the intake valves open deeper and longer to enhance airflow and allow the MDX to continue to build horsepower at levels where other engines may run out of steam.
- When used in tandem with the 2-Stage manifold system, the driver enjoys plenty of low-end power around town and reserve power on the open road.

Some Denver area Acura admirers may be interested to know of Acura’s involvement in racing. Almost since its inception, Acura has been involved in American motorsports, specifically in Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and IMSA GT Championship series. Starting in 1991, Acura reached an agreement with Comptech Racing to use the V6 motor of the all-new Acura NSX in Comptech’s Camel Lights Spice prototype. Acura would go on to take the Lights championship in its initial year, including a class win at the 24 Hours of Daytona. Acura and Comptech would take the Lights championships again in 1992 and 1993, as well as another Daytona class win in 1992 and a class win at the 12 Hours of Sebring for 1993.
Acura moved to touring car racing, joining Realtime Racing in the SCCA World Challenge with the NSX in 1996, winning the final two races of the season. In 1997, Acura added Acura Integras to the lower classes, and were successful in taking the championship in both of these classes. The NSXs returned to the top class in 2001.
At the Detroit Auto Show in 2006, Acura announced their plans to enter the American Le Mans Series with multiple teams of Le Mans prototypes in the LMP2 class starting in 2007 season. The cars would use American-built Acura V8s (a first for Acura and Honda). Acura also announced their initiative to take the cars to the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2008.
